Trade Dollars The Trade Dollar was designed by William Barber and was designed for circulation in the Orient. Many of these coins that circulated in the Orient had "chop marks" (actually they were counter-stamped) meaning that the coin had their seal of approval.

It weighs a little more than regular silver dollars (420 grains). After 1878 on proof coins were minted.
